<p>Wyresdale Hall is a country house located to the northeast of Scorton, Lancashire, England.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>It was built in 1856–58, and designed by the Lancaster architect E. G. Paley for the Ormrod family of Bolton. It has since been extended and outbuildings have been added. The hall is in Gothic Revival style. A lake was added to the grounds in 1897. The hall and surrounding parkland were purchased in the 1920s by the Riddell family, and the farms and fell land by the Whewell family. In 1967 the hall was also bought by the Whewells. By the 2000s the hall continued to be in a satisfactory condition, but the outbuildings were in a poor state and the gardens were overgrown. The family worked with Ruth Watson, and cooperated with the Channel 4&#39;s programme Country House Rescue, creating a café and arranging Open Days. The hall and its surrounding outbuildings are recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.</p><br>
<h2>The Ormrod Family</h2><br>
<p>Peter Ormrod (1796–1875) built Wyresdale Hall in 1856. The architect was Edward Graham Paley who designed many outstanding buildings in Lancashire. Peter was a banker and cotton manufacturer. His father James was one of the founders of the Bolton Bank (now the Royal Bank of Scotland) and on his death in 1825 Peter inherited the Partnership in the bank. In 1838 Peter married Eliza Hardcastle who was the daughter of one of his partners. On their marriage his father in law, Thomas Hardcastle gave him Halliwell Hall and Peter made major alterations to this house. He also provided the entire funding for rebuilding the parish Church in Bolton.</p><br>
<p>The couple had no children and therefore when Peter died in 1875 Wyresdale Park was left to his nephew James Cross Ormrod. However his wife Eliza was given a life interest in the house and she remained there until her death in 1890. When James Cross Ormrod died in 1895 his son Captain Peter Ormrod (1869–1923) inherited the Estate.</p><br>
<p>Captain Peter Ormrod was a very outgoing man and made major improvements to the property. His most outstanding achievement was the establishment of the Wyresdale Fishery which was said to be the largest in Europe (see photos below). Two feature articles were written in 1899 in the magazine “Country Life” about this Fishery. He also added a deer park and a lake to the estate. In 1899 it was widely reported in many newspapers that Peter had bought the whole of the fallow deer in Barningham Park the seat of Sir F. A. Millbank.</p><br>
<p>In about 1912 Dame Laura Knight visited Wyresdale Park with her husband Harold at the request of the then owner Captain Peter Ormrod. In her autobiography she mentions that during her stay she was inspired to paint “the grounds, the byres and the fells. One of these paintings was called “The Morning Ride” which depicts the fountain which still exists today in the grounds of Wyresdale Park. A link to this painting is given at this reference. <p>In 1922 Peter sold Wyresdale Park. An advertisement for the sale is shown below. The Estate was split with the house and surrounding grounds being sold to Dr Hugh Riddell and a large portion of the remaining land to Shepherd Whewell.</p><br>
<p>The White River Entrance to Mount Rainier National Park is a complex of buildings built between 1929 and 1931 to accommodate visitors arriving on the Yakima Park Highway, in the northeastern portion of the park. Like most of the structures in Mount Rainier, the buildings are designed in the National Park Service Rustic style, using natural stone and log materials. The historic district includes the 1933 Men&#39;s Mess Hall and Dormitory, believed to be the only surviving camp structure built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the park.</p><br>
<p>The Ranger and Checking Station was built starting in 1929. Access was difficult, since Yakima Park Highway construction had not yet reached the area. Work was not entirely completed until 1931. Design was by the National Park Service Branch of Plans and Design, under the supervision of Thomas Chalmers Vint. The station is a one-story T-shaped log structure of seven rooms, with a porte-cochere extending over the road. It follows the prototype of the Nisqually Entrance Station, although the Nisqually station was remodeled to incorporate the porte-cochere first used at White River. The building provided living and working quarters for a ranger, with two bedrooms, a dining room, kitchen bathroom and living room.</p><br>
<p>Mens and womens "comfort stations," or public toilets, were built nearby in 1931 in a similar style. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1991. It is part of the Mount Rainier National Historic Landmark District, which encompasses the entire park and which recognizes the park&#39;s inventory of Park Service-designed rustic architecture.</p><br>
<p>Yorks Islands, also known as "Yorks 8 Islands" or "Yorks Islands" or simply "York Island" are a group of several islands located in the flood plain of the Missouri River, in Broadwater County, Montana, about 4 miles south  from Townsend, Montana, along USA Highway 287. The islands were named by the Lewis and Clark Expedition  for Clarks servant/slave York, when the expedition passed this way in 1805 on their historic journey of exploration to the Pacific Ocean. The islands may be accessed from USA287, as a Montana Fishing Access site.</p><br>
<h2>Naming Yorks Islands</h2><br>
<p>The islands were named for York (ca. 1770-1831), Captain William Clark&#39;s lifelong slave companion, and "body servant" who accompanied Clark on the expedition to the Pacific and back.</p><br>
<p>The expedition passed this point on 24 July 1805. However, the naming of "Yorks 8 Islands" is not found in the narrative journals of Lewis and Clark for that day. Instead it is found in Clark’s tabulations on his map drawings, and in his list of “Creeks and Rivers,”. Clarks map for this area has the entry, “Yorks 8 Islands,” and under related remarks in Clarks "Creeks and Rivers" is “W.C. on land York tired.”</p><br>
<p>On Wednesday, July 24, 1805 Meriwether Lewis made the following entry in his journal, which describes his thoughts about the formation of Yorks Islands. "we saw many beaver and some otter today; the former dam up the small channels of the river between the islands and compell the river in these parts to make other channels; which as soon as it has effected that which was stopped by the beaver becomes dry and is filled up with mud sand gravel and driftwood. the beaver is then compelled to seek another spot for his habitation wher he again erects his dam. thus the river in many places among the clusters of islands is constantly changing the direction of such sluices as the beaver are capable of stoping or of 20 yds in width. this anamal in that way I believe to be very instrumental in adding to the number of islands with which we find the river crouded."</p><br>
<p>The captains followed the practice of naming geographic features after prominent persons who somehow had been connected with the expedition, particularly the President and members of his cabinet, (viz Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin Rivers) or attributes of President Jefferson (viz. Philanthropy, Philosophy, and Wisdom Rivers). In addition, as far as can be determined, a geographic feature was named for every Corps member, including Seaman, Lewis’s Newfoundland dog.</p><br>
<p>In 1806, on the return leg of the expedition down the Yellowstone River, Clark also named another geographical feature for York, "York&#39;s Dry Creek", a tributary of the Yellowstone River, in Custer County, Montana. This name did not stick and the creek became known as "Custer Creek".</p><br>
<h2>Official Recognition of nomenclature "Yorks Islands"</h2><br>
<p>Though the name for "Yorks 8 Islands" appears on Clarks 1805 maps of the expeditions travel along the Missouri for July 24, 1805, the geographical designation for "Yorks Islands" was not officially confirmed until 2000, when the USA Board on Geographic Names approved the name Yorks Islands for the group of Missouri River islands in Broadwater County. The name was also approved by the Montana Board on Geographic Names and has been entered into the Nation’s official automated geographic names repository.The USGS (United States Geological Survey) Geographic Names Information System has settled on "Yorks Islands". However, the area is also called "Yorks Islands", or simply "York Island".</p><br>
<h2>Designation of "York's Islands Fishing Access Site"</h2><br>
<p>The island group are now incorporated into "York&#39;s Islands Fishing Access Site", maintained by the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department. This site is located on 22 acres along the east side of Missouri River 4 miles south of Townsend. The site is just off of USA Highway 287. The site is marked by a Montana Fish and Wildlife Department sign. It includes a boat launch, picnic tables, fishing access, camping sites (including some for small trailers) and toilets. There is a small fee. There is no water or any other services.</p><br>
<h2>Getting to Yorks Islands</h2><br>
<p>Getting to Yorks Island: Utilize Google Earth for this area of Montana, or any map of the area, or simply drive 4 miles south of Townsend, Montana on USA Highway 287, and look for the fishing access sign on the west side of the highway.</p><br>
<p>The White River Mess Hall and Dormitory is the only remaining Civilian Conservation Corps camp structure remaining in Mount Rainier National Park. The wood-framed building was built in 1933, and comprises 2185 square feet, originally containing a kitchen dining room, living room, two bathrooms, a bedroom and a bunkroom, as well as a service porch. The building no longer serves as a residence and is used for storage. It is located at the White River entrance to the park, part of a complex of service buildings.</p><br>
<p>The mess hall was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1991. It is part of the Mount Rainier National Historic Landmark District, which encompasses the entire park and which recognizes the park&#39;s inventory of Park Service-designed rustic architecture.</p><br>
<p>The Virginia Washington Monument, also known as the Washington Monument, is a 19th-century neoclassical statue of George Washington located on the public square in Richmond, Virginia. It is the terminus for Grace Street. The cornerstone of the monument was laid in 1850 and it became the second equestrian statue of Washington to be unveiled in the United States . It was not completed until 1869.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Washington Monument features a 21 ft, 18,000 lb bronze statue of George Washington on horseback. The base of the monument (finished after the American Civil War) includes statues of six other noted Virginians who took part in the American Revolution: Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, Andrew Lewis, John Marshall, George Mason, and Thomas Nelson Jr. On February 22, 1862, the monument was the location for the second inauguration of the President and Vice President of the Confederate States. The presidential oath of office was administered to Jefferson Davis by Judge J.D. Halyburton and the vice presidential oath to Alexander H. Stevens by senate president R.M.T. Hunter. Elements of the statue were incorporated into the Seal of the Confederate States.</p><br>
<p>Fort Center is an archaeological site in Glades County, Florida, a few miles northwest of Lake Okeechobee. It was occupied for more than 2,000 years, from 450 BCE until about 1700 CE. The inhabitants of Fort Center may have been cultivating maize centuries before it appeared anywhere else in Florida.</p><br>
<p>Fort Center is a complex of earthwork mounds, linear embankments, middens, circular ditches, and an artificial pond occupying an area approximately 1 mi long and 0.5 mi wide extending east-west along Fisheating Creek, a stream that empties unto Lake Okeechobee. The complex is named after a blockhouse located at the site during the Second Seminole War. No trace remains of the blockhouse, which may have been eroded by the river.</p><br>
<h2>Physical environment</h2><br>
<p>The Fort Center site consists of three environments; a meander belt along the stream consisting of a floodplain swamp and natural levees, wet prairie, and oak-cabbage palm-saw palmetto hammocks. The floodplain and prairie are subject to frequent flooding. The prairie consists of two to four feet of sandy soil on a hardpan, resulting in poor drainage. The stream meander belt cuts below the hardpan.</p><br>
<p>Pollen evidence shows that the river meander belt and prairie existed in essentially their current condition since human occupation began 2,500 to 3,000 years ago until the 20th century. The area covered by hammocks has increased since sustained occupation ended around 1700. Much of the area around Fort Center was developed as improved pasture during the 20th century. Lake Okeechobee was surrounded by a system of dikes built during the 20th century, except for where Fisheating Creek enters the lake.</p><br>
<h2>Cultural environment</h2><br>
<p>Fort Center is in the Lake Okeechobee Basin, an area that surrounds and drains into Lake Okeechobee, and is synonymous with the Belle Glade culture area, one of several related culture areas in southern Florida. The Kissimmee River valley is usually regarded as a sub-area of the Lake Okeechobee Basin (Belle Glade culture area). Sears treats the Lake Okeechobee Basin, including the Kissimmee River Valley, as a sub-region of the Glades culture area, while others place the Belle Glade (Lake Okeechobee) and Glades areas on an equal footing. The cultural traditions of southern Florida had a long history and were well adapted to the area. Archaeological evidence of changes in those cultures is mostly limited to small changes in the few ceramics that were decorated.</p><br>
<p>Mounds, ditches, canals and other earthworks have been found at a number of locations in interior southern Florida. More than thirty sites of the Belle Glade culture or its predecessors are known from the area around Fisheating Creek. At least seven other sites in southern Florida, including two near Fisheating Creek, have similar circular features, although none of them has been subject to detailed examination by archaeologists. McGoun quotes Stephen Hale as saying that complexes "with sequences of construction and architectural style almost identical to those at Fort Center" are found from Lake Tohopekaliga in the north to Palm Beach and Hendry counties to the south. There are also similarities between Fort Center and the Crystal River site. Milanich also notes resemblances between Period II Fort Center and contemporary Cades Pond culture sites at River Styx and Cross Creek in northern Florida.</p><br>
<p>Authors have sometimes postulated that the various mounds and other earthworks in the Belle Glade and Glades areas were constructed by or at least used by the Calusa. Archaeologists now generally discount that theory. While the Calusa exercised political hegemony over much of southern Florida during the historic period, the Belle Glade and Glades culture areas remained distinct from the Caloosahatchee culture area inhabited by the Calusa. It may be the case that the Caloosahatchee culture developed later than the Belle Glade culture.</p><br>
<h2>Excavation</h2><br>
<p>The Fort Center site came to the attention of archaeologists after a carved wooden bird was found in the pond in 1926. Working for the Federal Emergency Relief Administration beginning in the Great Depression, archaeologists conducted surveys and test excavations at Fort Center during the 1930s and 1940s. Archaeologist John Goggin surveyed the site in the early 1950s, digging some test pits. In 1961, an amateur group obtained permission from the land owner, Lykes Brothers, to survey the site. The group exceeded their permit and conducted an uncontrolled excavation. They took many artifacts, including objects from the historic period that had been reworked from metals of Spanish origin. When Lykes Brothers realized what was happening, they cancelled the group&#39;s permit, closed access to the site, and invited a professional archaeologist to survey the site.</p><br>
<p>The complex was excavated over six years (1966–1971) by teams from the University of Florida, Colgate University and Florida Atlantic University. The State of Florida acquired the Fort Center site from Lykes Brothers in 1999 as part of the Fisheating Creek Ecosystem. It is operated as a wildlife management area.</p><br>
<h2>Origins</h2><br>
<p>Sears believed that the freshwater regions of peninsular Florida were peopled by immigrants from northern South America who preceded Arawakan language-speakers through the Antilles. He cited the use of celts and adzes made from conch-shells, the proposed derivation of the Timucuan language from South American roots, the cultivation of maize, and the use of earthworks to form fields in savannahs (wet prairies) as was done in South America. He also cited the use of fiber-tempered pottery, similar to that used in South American, and distinct from pottery used in the rest of the eastern United States.</p><br>
<p>Sears divided the period of occupation at Fort Center into four periods. Period I began before 450 BCE, perhaps as early as 1000 BCE, and lasted until around 200 CE. Period II ran from about 200 to between 600 and 800, followed by period III until 1200 to 1400, and then period IV up to about 1700.</p><br>
<p>Other archaeologists have been skeptical of Sears migration theory. There is no evidence of South American root crops being introduced to Florida, and the evidence from pottery does not give a clear south to north sequence of introduction within Florida. But, there is some support for the idea that maize, and at least one strain of tobacco, were introduced into Florida by a sea route. Other archaeologists have noted that the peoples living in the Greater Antilles prior to the arrival of Arawakan-speakers were hunter-gatherers, not agriculturists. They believe that the agricultural Arawakan-speaking Tainos did not reach Hispaniola and Cuba until 600 to 700, near the end of Sears Period II, well after the introduction of maize at Fort Center.</p><br>
<h2>Period I</h2><br>
<p>Period I is characterized by several mounds, mostly artificial, that supported living areas, and by circular ditches, which Sears interpreted as enclosing fields. Only one or a few families lived on the site at any given time, and there is no evidence of any differentiated status. Maize pollen was found in middens on the mounds and in the fields dating from this period.</p><br>
<p>Five artificial mounds, identified as Mounds 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14, are in or near the stream meander zone. They are each round, about 100 feet in diameter, and two to three feet high. Most of these mounds are now part of the natural levees along the Fisheating Creek. The mounds may have been built on existing natural levees, or the presence of the mounds may have helped shape the levees. Three burials were found in Mound 13, which may have been used as a burial mound and later as a house mound. Mound 10 was not excavated. Little other than sherds were found in the other mounds.</p><br>
<p>The Okeechobee basin is subject to frequent flooding. Mounds are required in most parts of the basin to raise house floors above flood levels. The only place in the area high enough to remain above the flood waters was a section of old natural levee. Part of this levee, named Midden B, was also used as a living site during Period I. While the mounds at Fort Center were mostly used as house platforms, some mounds and other earthworks served other purposes. The site may have been inhabited because it provided easy access to food sources in the stream.</p><br>
<h3>Circular ditches</h3><br>
<p>Archaeologists found three circular ditches at Fort Center. Two of the circular ditches were about 300 feet in diameter, and partially overlapped. A third, later circular ditch was about 1,200 in diameter. It enclosed the earlier circular ditches, but was not concentric with either of them. This ditch was 25 to 30 feet wide, and six feet deep. Most of the dirt from the ditch had been thrown on the inner side of the ditch. There were two gaps in the ditch, one on the southeast side and another on the east side, closest to Mound B in the Ceremonial Complex.</p><br>
<p>No artifacts were found in the ditches or in the area enclosed by the ditches, but maize pollen was found under soil that had been disturbed from digging the ditches. Radio-carbon dating indicates that all three circles were complete by 450 BCE. There is no evidence of the circles&#39; being used for habitation, ceremonial or defense purposes. Sears holds that the maize pollen indicates that the circles were used for cultivation. The ditches around the circles penetrated the hardpan, helping to drain the prairie soil. Sears also states that the Great Circle likely was used for gardens from several centuries BCE until the end of period II, around 600 to 800. Sears compares the circular ditches at Fort Center to similar circular ditches used for agriculture in pre-Columbian Colombia.</p><br>
<p>Sears states that the circles at Fort Center were earlier than those of the Adena culture of the Ohio River valley. Sears believes that the Fort Center circles are related to circles at Hopewellian sites. He states that circle earthworks were almost certainly imported into Florida from South America along with maize. Sears believes that the inhabitants of Fort Center, who dug the circular ditches and introduced maize and cord-tempered pottery to the area, were people who were descended from migrants from South America, but they had been resident in Florida long enough to have adapted to the local environment.</p><br>
<h2>Period II</h2><br>
<p>During Period II, from about 200 until sometime between 400 and 600, all of the residents of Fort Center, three to six families, were involved in a ceremonial center. Two mounds, A and B, and an artificial pond are interpreted as a ceremonial complex. An embankment or wall surrounds Mound B and the pond, with both ends attached to Mound A. Part of the area enclosed by the embankment forms what appears to be a courtyard, but no evidence of how it may have been used was found. The complex was located on the prairie, close to the stream meander belt, and was the focus of the Fort Center site during Period II.</p><br>
<h3>Mounds</h3><br>
<p>Mound A is irregular in shape and about three feet tall. It has been interpreted as a living site. A couple of slightly higher places on the mound were probably structure sites. Middens on Mound A contained potsherds, maize pollen, animal bones (mostly deer), and human baby teeth. Some human bones, broken similarly to the animal bones, were also found in the middens, suggesting that cannibalism was practiced at the site. Shell tools, stone grinding tools and pipes were found in the living areas of the mound. Also found were sherds from imported ceramics, including types identified as Deptford, Cartersville, Pasco, Crystal River, and St. Johns. Sears suggests that this trade pottery was sacred and acquired for ceremonial purposes. Many post holes found in the lower level of the mound indicate that round or oval houses about 30 feet in diameter had stood on the mound. There were also pits in which shells had been burned to produce lime. Unburned shells around the edges of the lime pits were mainly river mussels, but also included conchs and venus clams. Human coprolites, feces preserved by exposure to the lime, were also found around the edges of the pits. Mound A was expanded at least twice during Periods II and III (200 to 1200 or later), with a particularly dense midden area deposited in the first half of that period. Some habitation of the mound extended past 1400.</p><br>
<p>At its final development, Mound B was cone-shaped (with a steeper slope on the upper part) with a slightly truncated top. Decayed conch shells, along with badly decayed human bones and teeth, were found on the original surface of the mound, below the lowest midden layer of Mound B. Dirt excavated from the adjacent pond was used to build the earliest part of Mound B and the embankment that surrounded the mound (connecting to Mound A at both ends). Around 500 Mound B was built up more with dirt from another borrow pit (not the pond). Around 150 secondary bundled burials were placed in the sides of mound in the dirt added at this time. No artifacts were found with the secondary burials, but small deposits of muck, presumed to be from the pond associated with Mounds A and B, were found with them. A set of objects, described by Sears as a "Hopewellian type deposit", was found in the side of Mound B facing the pond.</p><br>
<p>Mound B was originally used as a living site and for preparing and bundling bodies. The habitation area was later moved to Mound A while the body preparation activities continued on Mound B. Use of Mound A for ceremonial purposes is indicated by broken pipes found on Mound A and in the charnel pond. Pipes have been found at only one other place (the University of Florida Mound) at Fort Center. Habitation of Mound A apparently continued for a while after the site ceased being used as a ceremonial center.</p><br>
<h3>Charnel pond</h3><br>
<p>The artificial pond in the ceremonial complex was four to five feet deep, with a nearly flat bottom. It was cut through the hardpan, allowing water above the hardpan to flow into the pond, keeping it full. Dirt from Mound B had washed into the pond, partially filling it. Excavation of the pond yielded wooden objects, human bones from about 150 individuals, and human coprolites. Some of the wooden pieces found in the pond were carved (it was a carved wooden bird found in this pond that first brought the site to the attention of archaeologists). Some of the carvings had remnants of a lime-based coating. Other pieces of wood were long enough to have been set in the bottom of the pond and hold the carvings above the water. Some of the wood was rotted, other pieces were charred. Under the wood and bones was a midden layer, consisting of sherds, shells, pipe fragments and coprolites (preserved human feces). Some of the coprolites showed evidence of constipation, others showed evidence of diarrhea. Sears interpreted the materials in the midden layer as having been thrown into the pond during a "housecleaning" of Mound A, with the coprolites coming from the lime pits where similar coprolites were excavated.</p><br>
<p>Sears interprets the pond as a "charnel" pond, with a wooden platform in the pond holding bundled bodies. The carved figures of birds and animals found in the pond were probably mounted on the platform. The platform stood long enough for some of the wood to rot. The platform apparently caught fire and collapsed into the pond sometime around 500. As the bones found in the pond accounted for about 150 bodies, and about 150 bundled bodies with muck from the pond were found buried in Mound B, Sears states that the platform in the charnel pond must have held about 300 bundled bodies when it burned and collapsed. About half of the bundled bodies dumped into the pond were recovered and reburied in Mound B. The sex and age distribution of the bones is normal for the level of culture attributed to the inhabitants of Fort Center. Sears states that the platform was "clearly ceremonial", that the pond was a "culturally correct environment for charnel platform", and that the water was "a ceremonial requirement." Water burials were common in inland (freshwater) sites in Florida, such as the Windover archaeological site and Little Salt Springs. Artificial ponds have been noted at two other sites near Fisheating Creek. A "water mortuary cult" may have been widespread in southern Florida from Paleoindian times into the historic period.</p><br>
<p>Later analysis of the bones found in the charnel pond and in Mound B indicated the people suffered from osteoarthritis and anemia due to parasite infections and iron deficiency, but were relatively well nourished and showed less tooth wear than other contemporary populations in Florida. Few lived past age 35, and none in the analyzed population lived past about 55.</p><br>
<h3>Significance</h3><br>
<p>Sears interprets the complex consisting of Mounds A and B and the charnel pond as a ceremonial center where mortuary specialists processed bodies; in particular, they cleaned flesh from bones. They probably lived with their families on Mound B early in Period II, moving to Mound A later in the Period. They served a population spread through a large area, and probably also supplied tobacco, pipes, and lime for processing maize to the surrounding population. The 300 bodies kept on the platform may represent the people of the ceremonial center over several centuries. All of the residents of the ceremonial center would have been in a sacred social class, serving some large portion of the Okeechobee Basin (including the Kissimmee Valley). (There were many small sites with single houses on mounds throughout the area.)</p><br>
<h2>Period III</h2><br>
<p>Period III ran from between 600 and 800 to between 1200 and 1400. The ceremonial center was no longer active. Two places on the natural levee along Fisheating Creek, Midden A and part of Midden B, were occupied during this period, as was Mound A for at least the early part of the period. There was little change in the artifacts left by Period III inhabitants compared to artifacts from Period II. There is no evidence of maize cultivation from Period III.</p><br>
<h2>Period IV</h2><br>
<p>Period IV ran from sometime between 1200 and 1400 to around 1700. Most of this period was after European contact began affecting the peoples of Florida. Artifacts recovered from this period include reworked metal of Spanish origin. Occupation continued at Middens A and B on the natural levee along Fisheating Creek, and expanded to new mounds on the prairie away from the stream meander zone. Linear earthworks associated with those mounds also appeared in this period. Maize pollen was found in deposits from this period, after being absent during Period III. Burials from after 1500 were found in the top of Mound B. Most of these burials were flexed (legs bent), while the rest were bundled. Post holes associated with the upper level burials may be from small shelters built over the burials.</p><br>
<p>Burials from Period IV were associated with grave goods, including objects reworked from Spanish gold, silver, copper and brass, unlike those from earlier periods. Some of the grave goods may have been symbols or badges of rank. Fort Center was probably now part of the Calusa realm. Hernando de Escalante Fontaneda, who was held captive by Indians in Florida for 17 years in the 16th century, indicates that the Mayaimi people, who lived around Lake Okeechobee and were therefore the likely inhabitants of Fort Center, were subject to the Calusa. Fontenada describes the Mayaimi as living in very small towns and scattered settlements. Sears states that the Calusa probably did not use Fort Center as a ceremonial center.</p><br>
<p>During Period IV, several living sites were occupied (although not necessarily all at the same time), including Middens A and B, and Mounds 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, and the University of Florida Mound. Most of the mounds were new to this period. Mound 3 was built up from a small natural mound, and had been previously occupied. Mound 8 may be natural. Broken smoking pipes were found at the original ground level under the University of Florida mound, indicating the site may have served a ceremonial purpose before the mound was built. The mounds (not including the middens on the levee) are each big enough for a single house, and each mound is associated with a linear earthwork, which Sears interpreted as "agricultural plots." The linear earthworks varied in size, from 30 to 100 feet wide and 300 to 1,200 feet long. The earthworks were raised two to three feet above the prairie, and were surround by ditches from which the fill was taken. Although one end of each linear earthwork was close to a house mound, they were never connected to the mounds. No artifacts were found in the linear earthworks.</p><br>
<p>Earthworks similar to the mounds and linear ridges at Fort Center have been reported from Belle Glade, Tony&#39;s Mound, Big Mound City and the Boynton Mound complex, and these sites may all have been part of a "prehistoric farmstead culture."</p><br>
<h2>Diet</h2><br>
<p>Other than maize, which was perhaps used only in a ceremonial role or as a high-status food, the inhabitants of Fort Center relied on gathering, hunting and fishing for food. They ate a variety of animal food, particularly turtles (nine different species) and fish. They also ate alligators, snakes, frogs, sirens, opossums, raccoons, muskrats, moles, squirrels, foxes, bobcats, deer, geese, turkeys, and turkey buzzards.</p><br>
<h2>Maize cultivation</h2><br>
<p>Sears reported several lines of evidence for the cultivation of maize at Fort Center. Direct evidence for the presence of maize was the discovery of maize pollen in several environments at Fort Center. Maize pollen from Period I was found in the fields surrounded by the circular ditches and in middens. From Period II maize pollen was found in the lime-based coating on a carved bird found in the charnel pond, and in some (three out of 121) of the human coprolites examined. Maize pollen was also found in some of the Period IV linear earthworks.</p><br>
<p>Indirect evidence for cultivation of maize at Fort Center includes the fields enclosed by circular ditches created during Period I, and the linear earthworks of Period IV, which Sears compares to the circles and ridges used for agriculture on tropical savannahs in pre-Columbian South America. Sears points out that the lime produced by burning shells on Mound A during Period II could be used to process dried maize into masa, and that pestles found in middens could be used to produce mush. Fontaneda stated that the Mayaimi ate bread made from roots, and does not mention maize, but Sears wondered whether Fontaneda may have failed to recognize maize.</p><br>
<p>The claim that maize was cultivated at Fort Center by 450 BCE has been controversial. Some archaeologists have pointed out that neither maize kernels nor cobs have been found at Fort Center. Others have questioned the dating of the maize pollen. McGoun argues that while the maize pollen found in fields might be the result of later contamination, the pollen in the coating on the carved wooden bird and in the coprolites is harder to explain away. Evidence against the proposition that the circular ditches drained fields so that maize could be cultivated includes that one of the earlier ditches did not cut through the hardpan in at least some places. The soil at Fort Center has low fertility, high acidity, and high levels of aluminum, and thus is not suited for growing maize. Milanich also notes that the raised ridges and circles in South America that Sears cites as the models for the structures at Fort Center differ in important details from Fort Center. An analysis of dental wear indicates that the Period II residents of Fort Center did not depend on horticulture for their diet, and any use of maize did not contribute significantly to their diet.</p><br>
<p>The Chinook Pass Entrance Arch marks the east entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. The rectangular log entry arch is one of several placed at the entrances to the park. It was designed in 1933 by the National Park Service Branch of Plans and Designs, and was built in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The arch consists of two stone abutments carrying horizontal logs over the road. The arch functions as a bridge, carrying a horse trail, which is now part of the Pacific Crest Trail.</p><br>
<p>The Chinook Pass arch was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1991. <p>The Wonderland Trail is an approximately 93 mile  hiking trail that circumnavigates Mount Rainier in Mount Rainier National Park, Washington, United States. The trail goes over many ridges of Mount Rainier for a cumulative 22,000 ft of elevation gain. The trail was built in 1915.</p><br>
<p>The shelters are part of the notable rustic architectural theme that is particularly consistent at Mount Rainier in both frontcountry and backcountry, having all been built at the height of the NPS Rustic design trend. Since its founding in 1916, the NPS sought to design and build visitor facilities without visually interrupting the natural or historic surroundings. The shelters are part of the Mount Rainier National Historic Landmark District, which encompasses the entire park and which recognizes the park&#39;s inventory of Park Service-designed rustic architecture.</p><br>

<p>The Summerland Trail Shelter in Mount Rainier National Park is a rustic shelter on the Wonderland Trail, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934. The shelter features stone walls and a log roof structure, in a saltbox shape. It Measures about 15 ft by 16 ft. According to the supervising landscape architect, "The workmen were inexperienced in stone work and the shelter was not too good in appearance, but it was in harmony with its location." The shelter was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1991.</p><br>
<h3>North Mowich Trail Shelter</h3><br>
<p>The North Mowich Trail Shelter is one of a series of shelters designed to provide simple shelter to hikers on the Wonderland Trail in Mount Rainier National Park. The North Mowich shelter was built in 1934 by Civilian Conservation Corps workers. The log structure, open to the front, measures 14 ft by 14 ft. The shelter was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1991.</p><br>
<h3>Indian Bar Trail Shelter</h3><br>
<p>The Indian Bar Trail Shelter in Mount Rainier National Park is a rustic shelter on the Wonderland Trail, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1940. The shelter features stone walls and a log roof structure, to a design by the National Park Service Branch of Plans and Design, under the supervision of Edwin A. Nickel. Measuring about 23 ft by 26 ft, it is one of two CCC shelters remaining on the trail, with the earlier Summerland Trail Shelter. The Indian Bar shelter features a stone fireplace, and replaced an earlier ranger-built shelter. The shelter was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1991.</p><br>
<p>In 2008, renovations were made to the Indian Bar Shelter to make repairs and correct drainage problems. Funding provided by the Mount Rainier National Park Associates was matched under the federal NPS Centennial Project.</p><br>

<h3>Sunset Park Patrol Cabin</h3><br>
<p>The Sunset Park Patrol Cabin was built in 1922 to shelter park rangers and hikers on the Wonderland Trail in Mount Rainier National Park. The cabin, at Golden Lakes, is a log structure about 16 ft by 18 ft with a low porch (included in the dimensions) across the front. The interior is finished with varnished logs and a wood floor. It was one of several such cabins built in 1922. The cabin was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1991.</p><br>
<h3>White River Patrol Cabin</h3><br>
<p>The White River Patrol Cabin was built in 1927 by the National Park Service at the White River Campground in Mount Rainier National Park, as the White River Campground Ranger Station. The rustic cabin functioned as a patrol cabin because of its location on the Wonderland Trail. Construction is post and beam frame with log roof framing. The three-room cabin was remodeled in 1949. The cabin was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1991.</p><br>
<p>In 1998 White River Patrol Cabin underwent rehabilitation. This historic back country cabin serves as a mini-museum about the park&#39;s extensive trail system, including the Wonderland Trail.</p><br>
<h3>Sunset Park Trail Shelter</h3><br>
<p>The Sunset Park Trail Shelter was built in 1931 at Golden Lakes in the Sunset Park portion of Mount Rainier National Park. The rustic log structure provides shelter for hikers on the Wonderland Trail that encircles Mount Rainier. The Sunset Park shelter is built in a saltbox shape, with a porch spanning the width of the front. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1991.</p><br>
<p>The Narada Falls Bridge is a reinforced concrete arch bridge in Mount Rainier National Park, spanning the Paradise River above Narada Falls. The bridge was built in 1927-1928 by contractor J.D. Tobin of Portland, Oregon, who built the Christine Falls Bridge at the same time. The arch spans 36 ft. The bridge is 20 ft wide, with an additional 3.5 ft on either side for sidewalks. It was faced with rubble stonework and is an example of National Park Service Rustic design. The bridge is not open for public traffic, leading to the Narada park utility area</p><br>

<p>The Narada Falls Comfort Station was built in Mount Rainier National Park by the National Park Service and the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1941-42. The public toilet building is close to Narada Falls in the south central portion of the park. Initial work by the Park Service encountered substantial rock excavation, with the subsequent cost overrun requiring the Park Service to use CCC labor to complete the project. The building features stone masonry walls to window sill level, woor framed upper walls, and a timber framed roof. The interior comprises a waiting room and a toilet facility. The design was by the Western Region Landscape Engineering Division, with plan approval by Thomas Chalmers Vint, NPS Chief of Planning.</p><br>

<p>Serra de Sant Pere   or Serra del Solà is a 5.8 km long mountain range in the Baix Maestrat comarca, Valencian Community, Spain. Its highest point is Tossal de Sant Pere . The slopes are covered in low Mediterranean vegetation</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>This moderately high mountain chain rises west of Traiguera and east of Canet lo Roig, in the transitional zone between the Mediterranean and the continental climate. It is part of the transitional area between the Iberian System and the Mediterranean System of mountains. Unlike the nearby Cervera Mountains, the summits are rarely covered in snow in the winter.</p><br>
<p>There is a ruined church building formerly dedicated to Saint Peter the Apostle close to the top of the highest peak, as well as a cave with steps. Ancient Iberian remains and steles have been found in the lower slopes of the western side of the range.</p><br>
<p>Hiking paths are well marked and there is a triangulation pillar as well as a disused, rusting antenna on the highest summit.</p><br>
<p>Moles de Xert  is a 4.2 km long mountain range in the Baix Maestrat comarca, Valencian Community, Spain. Its highest point is Mola Gran . The other main summits are Mola Murada, a breast-shaped hill, Moleta Redona and Mola Llarga. These mountains have very original shapes, topped by regular rocky outcrops resembling castles or fortifications. They are frequently covered in snow in the winter.</p><br>
<p>The main mountain, Mola Gran, has been disfigured on the southern side by a stone quarry that left a very visible scarred surface with a large rock slide.</p><br>
<p>There are remains of an ancient Iberian Ilercavones settlement in the Mola Murada.</p><br>
<p>Wildlife, like Spanish Ibex, Roe Deer and Wild Boar, is abundant in these lonely mountains.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>This mountain chain rises above the town of Xert and right to the NE of Serra de l&#39;Espadella, east of the Maestrat mountains of which they could be considered foothills.</p><br>
<p>The abandoned villages of La Barcella and Fontanals are located in these mountains.</p><br>
<p>The Westinghouse Air Brake Company General Office Building  in Wilmerding, Pennsylvania is a building from 1890. It was listed on the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation in 1975, National Register of Historic Places in 1987. Originally built as an office building for the Westinghouse Air Brake Company, it now houses The George Westinghouse Museum.</p><br>
<h2>Construction</h2><br>
<p>Constructed by architect Frederick J. Osterling, the building has a four-sided clock tower, which was operated by a system of chains and pulleys. Additional designs and remodeling were done by Janssen & Cocken in 1927, which added the "Executive Wing", containing executive offices as well as conference and dining rooms.</p><br>
<p>The architectural style is a mix of Renaissance Revival and Romanesque. It was during this reconstruction that the clock tower was added. restaurant, swimming pool, and bowling alleys. This brought the total area inside the building to 55,000 ft&sup2;.</p><br>
<p>The building also housed a boiler house and light station, that supplied both steam and power to the plant, as well as various businesses in the community, such as the Wilmerding YMCA.</p><br>
<h2>Business history</h2><br>
<p>This building contained the offices of the Westinghouse Air Brake Company for well over a century. Westinghouse had developed many companies during this time of industrial growth at the beginning of the twentieth century. The Air Brake plant, that made for improved performance and increased speed on the nations railways, was moved to its new location in Wilmerding, Pennsylvania in 1889. Wilmerding is a small town about 14 mi outside of Pittsburgh which, at the time, was only inhabited by about 5,000 people. Socialism was strong in Wilmerding and it was a peaceful non-violent farming borough. It was thought to be “The Ideal Town” for the company because of its location right along the Pennsylvania Railroad and its mainly blue collar inhabitants. The Air Brake Company employed 3,000 citizens from the surrounding Pittsburgh area, but its work force was composed almost entirely of individuals from Wilmerding.</p><br>
<p>The office buildings were used until the building was vacated in 1985. It was then donated to the American Production and Inventory Control Society. The Westinghouse Air Brake Company merged with MotivePower Industries Corporation in 1999 to form the Wabtec Corporation. Wabtec still provides employment for more than 1,000 residents of the borough.</p><br>
<h2>Effect on the community</h2><br>
<p>When the Westinghouse Plant was also moved to Wilmerding, housing for the employees became hard to come by. In response to this, the Westinghouse Air Brake Home Building Company was formed in 1919 with $1,000,000 USD as startup capital. The 400 houses and large amounts of vacant land that were previously owned by the Westinghouse Air Brake Company were transferred to the new company. The new homes were specifically built with different variations to avoid the lack of variety commonly seen in industrial housing at the time. The Westinghouse Air Brake Home Building Company was so successful that within ten years, there were no vacant lots left on the Southern side of Turtle Creek. The extensive town-building, employment, and prosperity that George Westinghouse brought to Wilmerding is still celebrated today in the community, with a festival called "George Westinghouse Days", which takes place in early June each year.</p><br>
<h2>Inside The Castle</h2><br>
<p>The building used to house The George Westinghouse Museum, a model train display, and a Depression glass room, and is operated by Wilmerding Renewed, Inc. The Westinghouse Castle is operated by a non-profit organization and volunteers. In 2007, the artifacts that were in the Castle museum went to join the Heinz History Center. Since 2007, the Westinghouse Castle has gathered a collection of Westinghouse products and are now on display in their Westinghouse Museum room.</p><br>
<p>In 2016, the property was purchased by John Graf and the Priory Hospitality Group for development.</p><br>
<p>The Edith Creek Chlorination House is a historic structure in Mount Rainier National Park, built by the National Park Service in 1930. The rustic structure was built as part of the water supply system to the Paradise area. The low concrete building with stone veneer cladding was built to withstand very heavy snow loads. It was fed by a small dam on Edith Creek, which was replaced in 1970. The chlorination house contained equipment to chorinate the water from this source and to regulate the level of the reservoir.</p><br>

<p>The La Fave Block is located at the intersection of East Cooper Avenue and South Hunter Street in Aspen, Colorado, United States. It is a brick commercial building erected in the late 1880s, during the initial mining boom that created Aspen. Today it is the second oldest brick commercial building in the city, and, along with its neighbors on East Cooper, the only structure left built by Frank LaFave, one of Aspen&#39;s early settlers. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.</p><br>
<p>Its ornate Victorian architecture and idiosyncratic fenestration has survived, and it has become one of the most valuable commercial properties in contemporary Aspen due to its location a short distance from the Aspen Mountain ski resort&#39;s main lifts. At one point in the 20th century it was the office of an important local architect; and later a ski shop run by Olympic gold medalist Stein Eriksen. Its primary tenant is a clothing store run by Leonard "Boogie" Weinglass, the man said to have inspired a character portrayed by Mickey Rourke. In 2008 it sold for $14.6 million.</p><br>
<h2>Building</h2><br>
<p>The La Fave Block is located on the intersections southwest corner. Its official address is 405 S. Hunter. It is in the developed area of downtown Aspen a block north of the gondolas bottom terminal across East Durant Avenue and a block west of the pedestrian mall along East Cooper between South Mill and South Galena streets. An alley connects South Galena and South Hunter just south of the block.</p><br>
<p>The land is level, with the slopes of Aspen Mountain beginning just south of the gondola station. The surrounding neighborhood is heavily developed. On the corners to the north and northeast are modern commercial buildings, also of brick, housing restaurants. Across South Hunter is the Aspen Square Hotel, a modern brick four-story condominium hotel complex. To the east are two other late 19th-century brick buildings. Mature trees, one of them taller than the building have been planted along the sidewalk to provide shade.</p><br>
<p>The building itself is a two-story structure of brick painted light yellow topped by a wide bracketed wooden molded cornice painted green and purple. The north and west facades, along the streets, are joined by an oblique section with the main entrance. Above it a small pediment with "1888", the year of the building&#39;s construction, set in large letters in its entablature.</p><br>
<p>At three bays, the northern facade is the shorter of the two. The first story windows are irregular save for their large transoms</p><br>
<p>South of the storefront, the west facade is blank for several bays until a small recessed wooden door provides access from the street to the upper floor. Just to its south is another storefront, beginning with a window like those on either side of the main entrance to the corner store save for a single long panel below. On its south is a more deeply recessed two-pane window with transom, then that storefronts main entrance: a wooden door with a four-pane window above three horizontal recessed panels, topped by a single-pane transom. The next two bays have an awning and a blind transom, followed by two narrow windows, one two panes and the other single, an awning and a three-pane transom and finally a blind bay with two panels below. A cornice similar to the main storefronts caps this one.</p><br>
<p>The upper story&#39;s windows are mostly one-over-one double-hung sash with brickwork sills and lintels. The two southernmost on the western facade are less decorative, recessed single-pane windows with plain surrounds between brick pilasters. Above them is a paneled frieze below the cornice. The south facade has a balcony at the second level; the rear is faced in clapboard.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Established as a silver mining camp in 1879, Aspen quickly became a boomtown as settlers flocked to the upper Roaring Fork Valley. Many of the early permanent structures were timber frame buildings that were vulnerable to the frequent fires that broke out in the growing town. The city&#39;s government began requiring in the mid-1880s that new commercial buildings downtown be built of brick, stone or other fireproof materials.</p><br>
<p>Frank LaFave, an early settler, built the block that bears his name in 1888. He had wanted to build a larger building, but the owner of the wooden structure next door would not sell (before La Fave completed his building, however, it burned down). It was originally a restaurant, with apartments for rent upstairs.</p><br>
<p>That restaurant, the St. James, was praised by The Aspen Daily Times as "magnificent, neat, and clean." In the years after the Colorado Silver Boom ended and Aspens population declined from over 10,000 to a few hundred by the late 1920s, the block was neglected but did not fall victim to arson or collapse as so many other buildings from the boom era did. In the 1950s, the slow revival of Aspen as a ski town led to the buildings revival. Architect Fritz Benedict, influential in the development of the reborn city, used the dilapidated building as his office and rented out the apartments. Two decades later, Norwegian Stein Eriksen, a 1952 Olympic gold medalist in downhill skiing, used the restaurant space as a ski shop.</p><br>
<p>Eriksen left the property in the 1980s, by which time Aspen had become an upscale destination resort. The storefront is currently used by a clothing boutique run by Leonard "Boogie" Weinglass, often described as the inspiration for Mickey Rourkes character in Barry Levinsons film Diner, who runs Boogies Diner across the street. Another boutique is in the other storefront; offices are upstairs. In 2008 two local lawyers bought the La Fave Block from Eriksens partnership for $14.6 million, adding to an extensive portfolio of high-profile downtown properties.</p><br>
<p>The Gobbler&#39;s Knob Fire Lookout is a fire lookout in the extreme western region of Mount Rainier National Park at an elevation of 5,485 ft. One of four fire lookouts remaining in the park, the lookout is used for visitor services during summer weekends. The building is about 14 ft by 14 ft, and was designed by the National Park Service Branch of Plans and designs under the supervision of Acting Chief Architect Edwin A. Nickel. It was built in 1933. The two-story structure features a balconied lookout on the second level, with storage on the ground level. Cables secured to deadmen keep the lookout from blowing over. The lookout was extensively damaged in a 2006 storm. It has since been repaired.</p><br>

<p>Mount Langya is a mountain located south west of Chuzhou City, Anhui Province, Peoples Republic of China. <p>The Priesthood Restoration Site, formally known as the Aaronic Priesthood Restoration Site, is a historic site located in Oakland Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. Because of its historical significance to Mormonism, the site is owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . The site comprises property once owned, and lived on, by Joseph Smith and is the spot where Latter Day Saints believe the resurrected John the Baptist conferred the Aaronic priesthood upon Smith and Oliver Cowdery in 1829. In September 2015 the Church dedicated the site, which includes a visitors&#39; center and meetinghouse, monuments, and the reconstructed homes of Joseph Smith and the Hale family.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>In December 1827, Smith and his wife, Emma, moved to the area, hoping to escape persecution experienced in Palmyra, New York. After arriving the Smiths purchased 13.5 acre from Emmas father, Issac Hale. In Smiths day, the property was located in the Harmony Township of Susquehanna County; when the Oakland Township was incorporated in 1853, it included the land in question. Emma had been raised in Harmony, and many of her family members lived in the area. Her brother, Jesse Hale, had constructed a three-room frame home which the Smiths purchased and had moved onto their property.</p><br>
<p>While living in the home the Smith&#39;s first child, Alvin, was born and died. Alvin is buried just east of the historic site in the McKune Cemetery. A large portion of the Book of Mormon was translated by Smith while living in the home. According to Smith, the Aaronic priesthood was restored to him and Oliver Cowdery on May 15, 1829, somewhere in the woods near the home. After being given the priesthood by John the Baptist by the laying on of hands, the two men baptized each other in the nearby Susquehanna River. Following the baptisms, they ordained each other to the Aaronic priesthood.</p><br>
<p>The Smith family left the area and their home, moving to Fayette, New York, in August 1830. In 1919, the home lived in by the Smiths was destroyed by fire.</p><br>
<h3>Property acquisition and developments</h3><br>
<p>Because of the sites significance to its early history, the LDS Church purchased the original site and some surrounding property. Between 1947 and 1959, the church purchased the original property and six additional acres. In 1960, a monument was added to the site which commemorates the restoration of the priesthood. The monument includes a sculpture by artist Avard T. Fairbanks, depicting John the Baptist conferring the priesthood on Smith and Cowdery. In 2002 the Church purchased 25 acres of land which had been heavily polluted by adjacent railroad activity. This purchase extended the Churchs holdings to the river. Since that time additional property has been purchased, expanding the church&#39;s holdings in the area to 157 acre. The most recent acquisition occurred in January 2011, which added 10 acre purchased from the Boughton family for USD $2.1 million.</p><br>
<p>In a letter dated April 15, 2011, the LDS Church announced to nearby members that the site would be restored. The restoration includes reconstructing the homes lived in by the Smith and Hale families, along with farm out-buildings. A combination visitors&#39; center and meetinghouse is constructed, along with a new monument. Pennsylvania Route 171, which splits the historic site in two was rerouted as part of the project. In August 2015, the church announced that with construction completed, the site opened to the public on August 29 and was dedicated by Russell M. Nelson on September 19, 2015.</p><br>
<p>Indian Henrys Patrol Cabin is an early National Park Service patrol cabin in Mount Rainier National Park. The cabin was built in 1915-1916 at an elevation of 5,300 ft in an area of the park known as "Indian Henrys Hunting Ground," which had been used in the 19th century by the Cowlitz and Nisqually tribes. "Indian Henry" was an Indian guide who accompanied James Longmire in his explorations of the area. The Indian Henry&#39;s area became a tourist destination with the 1908 establishment of the "Wigwam Camp," a tent camp which was abandoned in 1918. The area remained as a headquarters for backcountry patrols; the cabin was the first such facility in the park.</p><br>
<p>The cabin is a one-story log structure with a broad front porch. The cabin measures 25 ft by 15.5 ft. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1991. It is part of the Mount Rainier National Historic Landmark District, which encompasses the entire park and which recognizes the park&#39;s inventory of Park Service-designed rustic architecture.</p><br>
<p>The Ipsut Creek Patrol Cabin was built by the United States National Park Service in 1933 in Mount Rainier National Park to house backcountry rangers. The log cabin resembles other cabins at Huckleberry Creek, Lake James and Three Lakes, all built to standard plans from the Park Service Branch of Plans and Designs, supervised by Acting Chief Architect W.G. Carnes. The cabin is approximately 24 ft by 14 ft, with a lean-to storage shed to the rear.</p><br>
<p>The cabin was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1991. It is part of the Mount Rainier National Historic Landmark District, which encompasses the entire park and which recognizes the park&#39;s inventory of Park Service-designed rustic architecture.</p><br>
<p>The Beasley Building is a historic commercial building in downtown Athens, Ohio, United States. Constructed at the turn of the 20th century, this industrial building has been named a historic site.</p><br>
<p>Built of brick with elements of iron, the Beasley Building is a three-story structure with a five-bay facade. Each bay features paired Romanesque Revival windows above a beltcourse with cornice, while an entablature of geometric shapes surrounds the building near its roofline. Upon its construction, the building was intended to convey a sense of architectural balance, contrasting the two-story height of the main windows with the beltcourse and frieze, as well as a sense of pure massiveness.</p><br>
<p>Situated in downtown Athens, the Beasley Building lies within an area that has served as Athens commercial center since the communitys founding. Substantial industry in the area began in 1840 when the Hocking Canal was built through the area, and the coming of the Scioto and Hocking Valley Railroad in 1855 expanded its commercial importance. Charles Higgins, a local miller, was one of the partners in the firm of Eldridge and Higgins, which bought the buildings site in 1904 and began construction, although it was then purchased by Frank Beasley, a prominent miller from nearby Amesville. His firm eventually turned the Beasley Building into the regions largest gristmill powered by electricity, although it eventually closed and was converted for grocery purposes.</p><br>
<p>Late in 1982, the Beasley Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, qualifying both because of its architecture and its place in the area&#39;s history. One year later, the building was awarded approximately $1.1 million in federal rehabilitation tax credits.</p><br>
<p>Conygar Hillfort is a small multivallate Iron Age hill fort in the North Somerset district of Somerset, England. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.</p><br>
<p>The hill fort is situated approximately 0.5 mi south from the village of Portbury near Bristol and the M5.</p><br>
<p>The fort is triangular in shape and there are the remains of a 3 ft high bank on the south-western side.</p><br>
<h2>Background</h2><br>
<p>Hill forts developed in the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age, roughly the start of the first millennium BC. The reason for their emergence in Britain, and their purpose, has been a subject of debate. It has been argued that they could have been military sites constructed in response to invasion from continental Europe, sites built by invaders, or a military reaction to social tensions caused by an increasing population and consequent pressure on agriculture. The dominant view since the 1960s has been that the increasing use of iron led to social changes in Britain. Deposits of iron ore were located in different places to the tin and copper ores necessary to make bronze, and as a result trading patterns shifted and the old elites lost their economic and social status. Power passed into the hands of a new group of people. Archaeologist Barry Cunliffe believes that population increase still played a role and has stated " provided defensive possibilities for the community at those times when the stress burst out into open warfare. But I wouldn&#39;t see them as having been built because there was a state of war. They would be functional as defensive strongholds when there were tensions and undoubtedly some of them were attacked and destroyed, but this was not the only, or even the most significant, factor in their construction".</p><br>
<p>New Ditch is a linear earthwork of possible Iron Age or Medieval construction. It partially crosses the Polden Hills in woodlands approximately 1.1 mi south-west from the village of Butleigh in Somerset, England.</p><br>
<p>Its construction is similar to Ponter&#39;s Ball Dyke 3 miles to the northeast, with the dyke on the south east of the embankment, but of less massive construction. Both were probably part of a more extensive defence scheme. It is nearly half a mile in length and was probably of greater extent originally, but as it stands, New Ditch cannot be termed a cross-ridge dyke although it does seem to be a boundary work.</p><br>
<p>It is debatable whether this site is ancient because it is located close to a medieval woodland and a deer park.</p><br>
<p>The J. Monroe Parker–Ficke House is a historic building located in the College Square Historic District in Davenport, Iowa, United States. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The house was individually listed on the Davenport Register of Historic Properties in 2003.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Built in 1881 by James Monroe Parker, a wealthy Davenport financier. It was designed and built by Davenport&#39;s prominent 19th-century builder T. W. McClelland. However, it is possible that Benjamin W. Gartside, who was an architect with the McClelland firm at the time, may be the actual designer. Davenport architect Victor Huot is responsible for the slate roof. Since 1978 the building has served as a fraternity house for Delta Sigma Chi from the Palmer College of Chiropractic.</p><br>
<h2>C. A. Ficke</h2><br>
<p>The house is associated with Charles August Ficke (1850-1931), who was a prominent Davenport attorney, politician, and developer. Born in Beitzenburg, then in the Duchy of Mecklenburg, Ficke moved to Davenport as a young child in 1851. He became a lawyer in 1877 after reading in H.R. Claussens office and formal study. Like many of people of German heritage between 1860 and 1885 he changed his political party affiliation from Republican to the Democratic Party. His art collection was the nucleus that started the Davenport Museum of Art that is now housed in the Figge Art Museum. Fickes son, Arthur Davison Ficke, lived in the home during the latter half of his childhood before establishing himself as a nationally known poet.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>The two-story Brick house follows an irregular plan. It features a mansard roof, multicolor slate shingles, wrought-iron roof cresting, brackets, moldings and fanciful window surrounds. The house is beautifully composed and well executed. It is the ultimate expression of Victorian excess, and it is considered one of the finest examples of Second Empire construction in the state of Iowa.</p><br>
<p>The White River Bridge was built in 1929 in Mount Rainier National Park as part of the Yakima Park Road project. The new road was planned to open up access to the northeastern portion of the park. The bridge, spanning the White River, was built by contractor John D. Tobin of Portland, Oregon, who had previously built the Narada Falls Bridge and the Christine Falls Bridges, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Plans for the bridge were drawn by the National Park Service Branch of Plans and Designs in the National Park Service Rustic style, with construction supervision by NPS landscape architect Ernest A. Davidson. The three-centered arch spans 60 ft, with a stone-faced concrete structure.</p><br>
<p>The bridge was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1991. It is part of the Mount Rainier National Historic Landmark District, which encompasses the entire park and which recognizes the park&#39;s inventory of Park Service-designed rustic architecture.</p><br>
<p>The Charles F. Ranzow and Sons Building is a historic building located on Lot 1, Block 18 of the original town of Davenport, Iowa, United States. It is part of the West Third Street Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The building was individually listed on the Davenport Register of Historic Properties in 2000.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Charles F. Ranzow owned the site by 1864 when he built a building on the site. The Sanborn Fire Insurance maps of 1886, 1892 and 1910 suggest the western two-thirds of the building was constructed by 1886 and the eastern third of the building was built between 1892 and 1910. The Ranzow Paint Company occupied the site for over 100 years. Wallpaper, paints, and oils were sold in the western section, and the eastern part functioned as a sash and door warehouse. The building currently houses the River Cities&#39; Reader and AdMospheres, an advertising agency.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>The building is a two-story free standing brick structure with a brick foundation. It features an overhanging bracketed metal cornice and a centralized broken pediment above. The windows on the second floor have stone lintels with keystones. The two original storefronts are indicated by iron columns. Access to the second floor is located between the two storefronts. The different coloration of the brick on the main façade of the building differentiates the two sections of the building.</p><br>
<p>River Bend Farm is a historic farm located in East Coventry Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania in a bend of the Schuylkill River near Pottstown. The farm house is a good example of early Chester County construction techniques, being built with stuccoed stone walls and pegged rafters. The farm was owned, but not lived in, by Michael Hillegas, the first Treasurer of the United States. It was also owned by members of the Hiester family political dynasty.</p><br>
<p>The farm was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Henry Casdorps family bought 600 acres on "Turkey Point," including the current farm site, on November 28, 1763 from Pennsylvanias proprietors, Thomas and Richard Penn for ₤60. They sold the land for ₤2,400 to Michael Hillegas and Francis Winey on May 23, 1764. The property sold included a house, which was likely a log cabin built before the Casdorp purchase. The new owners, in turn, sold 300 acres sixteen months later to Daniel Hiester who bought the property for his son John.</p><br>
<p>Daniels sons were active during the American Revolution. His son Daniel became a brigadier general in the Pennsylvania Militia and was elected to the first four USA congresses, representing Pennsylvania, and was later elected to represent Maryland. The elder Daniels son John fought at the Battle of Brandywine, and after the war was elected a major general of Militia. He was elected to the USA Congress in 1806, and John&#39;s son Daniel was elected to congress in 1808.</p><br>
<p>The house has two stories plus an attic. The first two stories have exceptionally high ceilings for the colonial period, 9 feet, 7 inches for the first floor and 8 feet, 11 inches for the second floor.</p><br>
<p>Another National Register of Historic Places listed site, Fricks Locks Historic District, lies about 600 yards south of the house. Starting in 1974, the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant was constructed to the east of the house, directly across the Schuylkill River.</p><br>
<p>The Tolmie Peak Fire Lookout is one of four fire lookout stations built in Mount Rainier National Park by the United States National Park Service  between 1932 and 1934. The two-story structure houses a lookout station on the upper level and storage at ground level. The design was prepared under the supervision of Edwin A. Nickel of the NPS Branch of Plans and Designs. The newly completed structure lost its roof to a windstorm and had to be repaired. It is secured against strong winds by cables attached to deadmen. The wood frame structure is used as a visitor contact point on weekends.</p><br>

<p>The Cass River is an alpine river in the Canterbury Region of the South Island of New Zealand. It rises near the Cass Saddle in the Craigieburn Forest Park and flows generally northeast alongside the Craigieburn Range before turning north to meet the Waimakariri River. State Highway 73 and the Midland Line both cross the lower reaches of the river near a farming locality named Cass.</p><br>
<p>A local landowner, P&E Ltd, applied to divert water from the Cass River and irrigate 550 hectare of high country land near Lake Grassmere. The consent was declined in March 2013 commissioners acting for Environment Canterbury for "potential impact on landscape values and water quality".</p><br>
<p>The river, railway station and settlement are named after Thomas Cass, chief surveyor of Canterbury Province from 1851–1867.</p><br>
<p>The Shinn Covered Bridge is a historic wooden covered bridge in the southeastern part of the USA state of Ohio. Located in the countryside northeast of Bartlett in Washington County, Built of weatherboarded walls with stone abutments and a metal roof, the bridge features vertical siding, and its portals have remained vertical and resisted creeping into another shape. The heart of the bridge&#39;s structure employs the Burr Truss design, which mixes the king post truss with a wooden arch designed by Andrea Palladio in the sixteenth century. Shinn built his bridge to span the western branch of Wolf Creek in Palmer Township.</p><br>
<p>In 1976, the Shinn Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It qualified for inclusion on the Register because of its important historic architecture and its place in the history of Ohio, for it is one of the last few examples of Burr king post arch truss bridges still standing in the state.</p><br>
<p>Sierra del Toro  is a 21 km long mountain range in the Alt Palància comarca, Valencian Community, close to the limit with Teruel Province, Aragon, Spain. It is named after the nearby town of El Toro.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>This mountain range is located at the eastern end of the Iberian System and is a southern prolongation of the Sierra de Javalambre. Its highest point is Puntal del Agrillar (1,616 m). Other important peaks are Puntal de Magaña (1,614 metres), Alto del Tomatero (1,607 metres), Puntal de Peiró (1,605 metres) and Salada (1,581 metres), where there is a military communications compound.</p><br>
<p>Its summits are usually covered in snow in the winter and are among the highest peaks of the Land of Valencia. Therefore there are also numerous ancient ice houses.</p><br>
<p>These mountains have been often devastated by forest fires in hot and dry summers and extensive planting of trees has been undertaken.</p><br>
<p>This mountain range was the scenario of violent battles during the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) when the fascist troops tried to split the Spanish Republican government territory in two and reach the Mediterranean coast and there are many remains of trenches.</p><br>
<p>Aberuchill Castle is located 3 km west of Comrie in Perthshire, Scotland. It comprises an early 17th-century tower house, which was extended and remodelled in the 19th century. The house, excluding the later west wing, is protected as a category A listed building, while the grounds are included in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>In 1596 the lands of Aberuchill were granted to the Campbell family of Lawers. The earliest part of the tower house is dated 1602. In 1642 Aberuchill was acquired by Sir James Drummond, and was retained by his descendents until 1858. The gothic east wing was added to the tower house by the Drummonds, and the interiors remodelled, in the early 19th century.</p><br>
<p>The house was purchased by Sir David Dundas of Dunira in 1858, who sold it on to George Dewhurst of Lymm, Cheshire, in 1864. Between 1869 and 1874 the west wing and further additions were made, possibly to the designs of David Bryce.</p><br>
<p>Aberuchill was inherited by William Mostyn-Owen on the death of his father in 1947, and he was living there in "23 rooms or so" of one wing with his wife, the Italian writer Gaia Servadio, in 1968, but eventually sold it.</p><br>
<p>The estate was sold by the Dewhursts in the 1980s, and remains in private ownership. In 2005 it was reported that Russian steel tycoon Vladimir Lisin had purchased the castle and its 3,000 acre estate for £6.8 million.</p><br>
<p>Raja Ampat Regency is a regency of West Papua province of Indonesia. The regency, which was formed based on the Law 26 of 2002, was inaugurated on 12 April 2003, and consists of a number of groups of islands situated off the north-west end of West Papua; the four main islands are Misool, Salawati, Batanta, and Waigeo. At present, the regency covers a land area of 8,034.44 km, and had a population of 42,507 at the 2010 Census; the latest official estimate  is 49,048. The principal town lies at Waisai.</p><br>
<p>On 25 October 2013 the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) began reviewing draft laws on the establishment of new regencies, including two new regencies of North Raja Ampat and South Raja Ampat within the borders of the existing Raja Ampat Regency.</p><br>
<h2>Administrative Districts</h2><br>
<p>The existing regency comprises seventeen districts (kecamatan), tabulated below with their populations at the 2010 Census:</p><br>
<p>Misool and Kofiau Islands (comprising the first six districts listed above) are currently in the process of being split off to form a separate South Raja Ampat Regency under proposals approved in 2014 by the Indonesian Government.</p><br>
<h2>Marinda Raja Ampat Airport</h2><br>
<p>In early May 2012, a 1,200 meters runway of Marinda Raja Ampat Airport has been officially opened by Transportation minister and Raja Ampat official. The runway will be extended to 2,000 meters and was predicted to be finished in 2013.</p><br>
<p>Sierra de Javalambre  is a 29 km long mountain range in the Gúdar-Javalambre comarca of Aragon and the Rincón de Ademuz and Serrans comarcas of the Valencian Community, Spain.</p><br>
<p>Highway N-234 winds its way between Sierra de Javalambre and Serra d&#39;Espadà reaching the coast at Sagunto and the Autopista AP-7.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>This mountain range is located at the eastern end of the Iberian System and the Sierra del Toro its ESE prolongation. Its highest point is Javalambre (2,020 m).</p><br>
<p>Its summits are usually covered in snow in the winter and the 1,839 m high Cerro Calderón or Alto de las Barracas is the highest peak of the Land of Valencia. Aramón Javalambre is a small ski resort in the range with 12.2 km of ski trails.</p><br>
<p>Emory Grove is a small area of bungalow style homes built in 1939 and the 1940s in Druid Hills, Georgia near Emory University. The Emory Grove Historic District, located between Emory University and the city of Decatur, Georgia, is a 90 acre historic district that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.</p><br>
<p>The district has 200 contributing buildings, 4 contributing sites and one other contributing structure. It includes work by architects and/or builders Ivey and Crook and Robert and Company in Colonial Revival and Late Gothic Revival architectural styles.</p><br>
<p>A significant date in its history is 1938. It includes single dwellings, a school, a religious structure, and a church school, and it was listed for its architecture.</p><br>
<p>Emory Grove consists of Princeton Way, Westminster Way, and Edinburgh Terrace, and some houses along N. Decatur Road.</p><br>
<p>Balquhain, also known as Balquhain Stone Circle, The Chapel of Garioch or Inveramsay, is a recumbent stone circle 3 mi from Inverurie in Scotland. It is a scheduled ancient monument.</p><br>
<h2>Description and measurements</h2><br>
<p>It is located in farmland at an altitude of c. 100 m on a terraced hillside leading up to a prominent summit called Mither Tap. It has been suggested to once have consisted of 12 stones, 4 of which remain standing, with another four fallen, the final four presumed to have been moved.</p><br>
<p>The recumbent altar stone is 3.8 m wide, 1.7 m high and 1.05 m deep, it has been estimated to weigh over ten tonnes. It is made is of a type of white grained granite that has been suggested to have been brought some distance to the location. It was suggested that it was designed to create an artificial skyline, horizontally levelled with chockstones; one of which is still visible under the stone. The eastern flanker stone is 2 m wide and made of dark grey basalt with a round top. The western flanker stone is 2.25 m wide and made of reddish quartzite bearing inclusions of white quartz and having a pointed top. The stone east of the east flanker is made of red granite. There is also an outlying stone 6 m to the southeast of the circle that is 3.1 m high and made of white quartz with roseate seams.</p><br>
<p>The circle has been estimated to have been between 18.3 m to 21.3 m in diameter. Alexander Thom suggested the circle had been 20.7 m and Fred Coles of only 19.5 m. The circle also displays suggested rock art including cup marks and a noticeable rounded bump on the recumbent stone that resembles the outline of the prominent hill behind it.</p><br>
<h2>Astronomical alignments</h2><br>
<p>It was discovered in the 1980s that Balquhain had lunar associations. The eastern flanker is aligned to the most southerly moonrise at 172 degrees, whilst the western flanker is aligned to the minor moonset at 232 degrees. The major moonset is aligned over the central hump of the recumbent stone at 190 degrees.</p><br>
<p>Susina Plantation is an antebellum Greek Revival house and several dependencies on 140 acres  near Beachton, Georgia, approximately 15 miles  southwest of the city of Thomasville, Georgia. It was originally called Cedar Grove. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is currently a private residence.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<h3>Antebellum</h3><br>
<p>Edward Blackshear moved to the area circa 1822 from what was then Pulaski County, Georgia. Edward was the brother of General David Blackshear, the namesake of Lake Blackshear and the town of Blackshear, Georgia. Edward died September 3, 1829 and his land passed to his wife and five children. The largest block was bequeathed jointly to his sons James Joseph and Thomas Edward. These two continued to acquire land and ultimately amassed approximately 4,815 acre.</p><br>
<p>Circa 1841, James Joseph commissioned the architect John Wind to design a plantation house. This photograph, although probably taken after the American Civil War, depicts the structure as originally built. John Wind was born in Bristol, England, in 1819.</p><br>
<p>James Joseph Blackshear was killed in a cotton press accident on November 3, 1843 before the house was completed. His wife, Harriet Blackshear, completed the house and continued to acquire land. His will was not probated until 1857 and her new acquisitions were recorded in his name. Harriet became a prominent planter in her own right. In 1860, thirteen Thomas County plantations produced over 100 bales of cotton. Harriet Blackshear had the record with 235 bales produced by slave workers. She was also one of the county&#39;s larger rice producers and she raised 5000 bushels of sweet potatoes. Harriet Blackshear died in 1863. After the American Civil War, Cedar Grove fell onto hard times, but it remained in Blackshear hands until 1887.</p><br>
<h3>Postbellum</h3><br>
<p>In the 1880s and 1890s, Thomasville was a popular wintering area for wealthy Northern industrialists who came by scheduled rail and private rail cars to hunt and enjoy the pine-scented air. The old and then unproductive plantations were soon discovered and by 1890, all of the 70 plantations in the Thomasville area had been acquired for use primarily as private hunting preserves and retreats. In 1887, Cedar Grove was acquired by Dr. John Metcalfe of New York who used it as a hunting lodge. He renamed Cedar Grove to Susina. Dr. Metcalfe had a wife named Susan and wild plum grew on the property. Susina is Italian for plum. In 1891, A. Heywood Mason of Philadelphia purchased Susina Plantation and approximately 6400 acres (2590 ha). He had inherited a fortune made by his father James S. Mason who developed and sold shoe polish, called shoe blackening at the time. He added side porches to the house and probably the rear kitchen wing. He later expanded the dining room by enclosing a portion of the south porch.</p><br>
<p>The community around Susina was initially called Duncanville. Maps dated from 1887 until 1906 show the town as Susina. After 1906, the area become known as Beachton. Originally located in Thomas County, Susina Plantation is now located in Grady County which was formed out of Thomas and Decatur Counties in 1905.</p><br>
<p>A. Heywood Mason died in 1911 and the plantation was managed by his wife, Anna. After her death in 1931, A. Heywood Mason&#39;s son, James Mason II, managed Susina Plantation. His sister, Elanor Mason Butler and her husband expanded the nearby cottage to 5,000 ft&sup2; circa 1925. In 1951, the land at Susina was divided among four heirs. One grandson of A. Heywood Mason, A. Heywood (Hey) Mason II, bought the interests of his brother and two sisters in the main house and the immediate dependencies. A. Heywood Mason II conducted repairs and renovations in 1951 and 1967. Susina Plantation was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 12, 1970.</p><br>
<h3>Modern</h3><br>
<p>In 1980, Susina Plantation was acquired by Anne Marie Walker and was operated as a bed and breakfast. Notable guests were Paul Newman and his wife Joanne Woodward, a Thomasville native. In 2000, Randall and Marilynn Rhea of Atlanta acquired the property for use as their private residence, and they hired general contractor Terrell Singletary of Thomasville to repair and renovate the main house and four of the dependencies. More recently, Susina Plantation has hosted events for the Grady County Historical Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Thomas County Museum of History. The main house at Susina Plantation is considered by some to be one of the finest examples of the Greek Revival style. It was selected for the cover image of two books covering antebellum houses.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>The main house sits on a knoll surrounded by large and mature live oak and magnolia lawns. John Winds early work, such as Greenwood and Susina, were in traditional Greek Revival style. Later at Eudora and Fair Oaks, he skillfully added his own style which tended toward a later romantic or Oriental period. Susinas Ionic portico is supported by four two-story, fluted and tapered round columns. The portico extends across approximately three-fourths of the facade. The house was constructed from heart-pine cut on the property. The siding is clapboard except under the portico where the siding is set flush to resemble stone. The entablature runs completely around the house. The frieze of the portico is plain with large dentils under the cornice. The dentils are continued around the projecting cornice of the pediment. A sunflower rosette, perhaps hand carved by Wind, is in the center of the pediment. A cantilever balcony is under the portico, over the front door.</p><br>
<p>The front double door is eight by seven feet and has sidelights and a fixed transom with lattice work created by strips of wood. The molding around the door has a fret design at the upper and lower corners with fluting running the length of the posts. The door to the balcony is a seven by seven foot version of the main door. The first and second level windows have nine over nine lights and triangular pediments. The windows are six feet six inches high by two feet ten inches wide.</p><br>
<p>The plan is a basic four over four room layout with a central enclosed breezeway. In the original 1841 house, the rooms on the north (right) side of the house were not as deep as on the south, so the rear included a covered porch. A symmetric, circular staircase ascended from the north side of the breezeway to the left side of the top hallway. A room was formed on the second level behind the circular stairwell. The stairwell includes a small, decorative niche. Each room includes a fireplace that extends into the room approximately three feet. Mantels are supported by pilasters of varying design. The interior uses wainscoting throughout with top projecting molding serving as a dado. Door and window moldings are fluted with lintel sections. Simple crown molding completes a relatively simple but elegant woodwork style.</p><br>
<p>Circa 1891, A. Heywood Mason added porches that extend the full length of the house on both the north and south sides. The architect is unknown. Mason also probably added the rear kitchen wing. No photographs prior to 1895 of the rear of the house are known, so dates of renovations at the rear are in question. Between 1891 and 1930, the 1841 rear porch was enclosed to form new rooms on both levels. A south rear screened sleeping room above the side porch was added circa 1925. This sleeping porch and a rear race for air conditioning were removed by the Rhea&#39;s in 2000 to return the exterior to an earlier period.</p><br>
<p>Mahantango Creek  is a 2.1 mi tributary of the Susquehanna River in Snyder and Juniata counties, Pennsylvania, in the United States. Its name comes from a Delaware Indian word meaning "where we had plenty to eat". The creek flows along the border between Snyder County and Juniata County.</p><br>
<p>Historically, numerous sawmills and gristmills have been built on the creek. The first inhabitants of the area arrived in the late 1700s. In the 1750&#39;s, Peter and Michael Shaffer had land grants along and near the mouth of Mahantango Creek. They were both farmers, Michael also had a lumber mill and a distillery.</p><br>
<p>The watershed of the creek has an area of 86.2 square miles. Trout inhabit the tributaries of Mahantango Creek, but not the main stem. Smallmouth bass, however, may inhabit Mahantango Creek itself.</p><br>
<h2>Course</h2><br>
<p>Mahantango Creek begins at the border between Perry Township, Snyder County, Chapman Township, Snyder County, and Susquehanna Township, Juniata County. The creek&#39;s headwaters are at the confluence of North Branch Mahantango Creek and West Branch Mahantango Creek, near Pennsylvania Route 104. It heads southeast for a short distance and then turns northeast. Shortly afterwards, it turns southeast again, passing by the community of Mahantango. The creek then turns nearly due-south and crosses under USA Route 11 and USA Route 15. Shortly afterwards, it reaches its confluence with the Susquehanna River.</p><br>
<p>Mahantango Creek joins the Susquehanna River 105.98 mi upstream of its mouth and 27 mi upstream of Harrisburg.</p><br>
<h3>Tributaries</h3><br>
<p>Mahantango Creek has two named tributaries. These are North Branch Mahantango Creek and West Branch Mahantango Creek. West Branch Mahantango Creek is 18 mi long and North Branch Mahantango Creek is 13.1 mi long. Both of these tributaries&#39; headwaters are in Bald Eagle State Park.</p><br>
<h2>Hydrology, geography and geology</h2><br>
<p>There is a broken flint ridge between Richfield and Mahantango Creek. A feature known as McKees Half Falls is located near the creeks mouth. There are also limestone and sandstone formations at the mouth of the creek. A rock formation known as the Marcellus black slate forms visible outcrops at the headwaters of the creek.</p><br>
<p>Mahantango Creek forms part of the border between Snyder County and Juniata County.</p><br>
<p>In 2009, a $600,000 project was to alleviate soil erosion on Mahantango Creek was carried out. There are also no-till planting practices being done in the creek&#39;s watershed to reduce the amount of sediment flowing from it into the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay.</p><br>
<p>The water temperature of Mahantango Creek can be as high as 85 &deg;F.</p><br>
<h2>Watershed</h2><br>
<p>The watershed of Mahantango Creek has an area of 86.2 square miles. The watershed is located in Snyder County and Juniata County.</p><br>
<p>Parts of the watershed of Mahantango Creek are rural and is mostly used for agricultural purposes.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Mahantango Creek&#39;s name comes from the Delaware word mahantongo, which means "where we had plenty to eat". It was apparently named after a group of Native Americans had a large meal on the creek.</p><br>
<p>George Herrold had a 146.2 acre tract of land on the creek in 1765. It is unlikely, but possible, that Peter Shaffer settled on the creek around 1765. Michael Witmer gained access to a tract of land on Mahantango Creek around 1770.</p><br>
<p>In May 1772, there were plans to construct a road from Sunbury to Mahantango Creek.</p><br>
<p>Historically, there were twelve gristmills and fourteen sawmills on Mahantango Creek and its tributaries. As late as 1919, there were still a large number of mills in the watershed, including the Old West Perry Mill, producing fermented pear cider, or perry, which was built in 1778.</p><br>
<p>In March 1901, flooding and ice jams severely damaged a number of bridges over Mahantango Creek. There are two covered bridges located on Mahantango Creek near Pennsylvania Route 104. One of them is called the North Oriental Covered Bridge and was built in 1908. The other is known as the Sheaffer Covered Bridge and was built in 1907. Both bridges are burr arch truss bridges.</p><br>
<h2>Biology</h2><br>
<p>The Mahantango Creek Confluence Pools are a series of small pools located near Mahantango Creek in Susquehanna Township, Juniata County and Snyder County. These pools are surrounded by hardwood forests, which have been somewhat affected by logging. Additionally, there are vernal pools on the tributary West Branch Mahantango Creek. These are known as the West Branch Mahantango Creek Vernal Pools.</p><br>
<p>Mahantango Creek flows through an area of forest with an area of greater than 5,000 acre.</p><br>
<p>Mahantango Creek is not stocked with fish. It is, however, a warmwater community for fish. Brook trout have inhabited North Branch Mahantango Creek in the past.</p><br>
<p>A barn on the floodplain of Mahantango Creek is inhabited by 30,000 bats. These include little brown myotis bats and big brown bats.</p><br>
<p>The Central National Bank building is a 23-story Art Deco skyscraper located in Richmond, Virginia. Completed in 1929, it was one of the first skyscrapers in the city of Richmond not in the heart of the financial district. According to architectural historian Richard Guy Wilson, it and the West Hospital building, are the only two skyscrapers in Richmond to have used the fashionable Art Deco ziggurat-inspired setback, and only a few others exist elsewhere in Virginia. When the bank later changed hands, it was known as the Central Fidelity Bank. It was used as a branch bank for Wachovia Corp. until that closed in 2000. After nearly fifteen years of vacancy, it was converted into apartments, and the first resident moved into the building in mid-2016. The redevelopment is called to "Deco at CNB," a 200-apartment development by Douglas Development Corp.</p><br>
<p>It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It is located in the Grace Street Commercial Historic District.</p><br>
<p>The Silver Bow Basin is a valley located 2.4 miles northeast of Juneau, Alaska, USA. It is situated on Gold Creek in an area north of Icy Gulch, and approximately 1.5 miles north of Gastineau Peak. A trail from Juneau leads directly to the mountainside. The basin was the site of the earliest gold discovery in the Juneau area, leading to the establishment of the town called Juneau.</p><br>
<h2>Etymology</h2><br>
<p>There are opposing theories as to who named the basin. One version states that it was named by Richard Harris after the mine in Silver Bow, Montana. Another theory is that it was named by a party of Montana miners in honor of their last camp in Montana.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Placer was found in the basin&#39;s Gold Creek in 1880 by Richard Harris and Joe Juneau. This gold discovery led to the creation of the town called Juneau. as well as having grubstaked the prospectors Harris and Juneau. The mines were reached by a 3.5 miles wagon road that zig-zagged across the hill.</p><br>
<p>Both quartz and placer mines operated in the basin, but because of climatic conditions, it was impossible to carry on milling operations in the basin itself for more than five or six mouths during the year. The largest of the mines was the Perseverance. The Fuller First Mine was the first quartz location in the basin. Over fifty placer claims on the basins level floor were owned by the Silver-Bow Basin Mining Company, of Boston, while the Eastern Alaska Mining and Milling Companys mill was at the extreme end of the basin. In 1890, the Silver Bow Basin Mining Company properties were transferred to the Nowell Gold Mining Company, which worked the placer deposits until 1902. The Lervey Basin placer claim was opened in 1899 a mile above Silver Bow Basin. In 1915, it was reported that a 2 miles tunnel was being driven through the ridge between Sheep Creek and Silver Bow Basin, to connect with a crosscut from the shaft on the thirteenth level. The purpose of the tunnel was to transport mined ore to the mills on the Gastineau Channel. Total production estimates exceed 50,000 oz of gold.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>A glacier, which formerly extended to the mouth of Gold Creek and built up the moraines, excavated the depression that forms the basin. Subsequently, it was occupied by a lake that was separated from the lower portions of the creek by a solid rock divide. Lurvey Creek forks into North Lurvey Creek and East Lurvey Creek above the basin. The basin&#39;s lake beds are auriferous. Although the creek was filled with ice, there are patches near the basin which were not subjected to glaciation. Granite rocks are located in the northwestern part of the basin.</p><br>
<p>Silver Bow Basin is approximately 3,000 ft long and 1,000 ft wide, at an altitude of 1,250 ft.</p><br>
<p>The Frank Lloyd Wright Allen House  is a Prairie Style house in Wichita, Kansas, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1915 for former Kansas Governor Henry Justin Allen and his wife Elsie.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>It was one of Frank Lloyd Wright&#39;s last Prairie Houses. The design influence of the prairie, and Japanese architecture (Wright was working on the Imperial Hotel in Japan at the time) is apparent on both the interior and exterior. Also included in the forward thinking house were modern conveniences such as a central vacuuming unit, an alarm system and gas fireplace logs. Another innovation of the Frank Lloyd Wright Allen House was the first fire wall in a residential home. The bricks contain iron, giving it a rust color. It is currently run by the Allen–Lambe House Foundation as a museum under the stewardship of the Wichita Center for the Arts.</p><br>
<p>The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 7, 1973.</p><br>
<p>The Wapiti River is a river in the Southland Region of New Zealand. It rises in the northern extremity of the Stuart Mountains in Fiordland National Park, the top of its watershed being part of the main divide. Two branches feed Lake Sutherland,  the outflow of which flows southwest to Lake Thomson. A further 2.2 km reach of the river heads east to Lake Hankinson, which is separated from the North West Arm of the Middle Fiord of Lake Te Anau by a final 0.6 km stretch of the river.</p><br>
<p>The river is named for the Wapiti (Cervus canadensis), an introduced deer species found in Fiordland. Lake Wapiti lies a few kilometres from the Wapiti River, but is in a separate catchment, that of the Doon River feeding the West Arm of the Middle Fiord.</p><br>
<p>A tramping track connecting Lake Te Anau to George Sound via the Henry Pass follows the Wapiti River from its mouth as far as the head of Lake Thomson, thereafter turning west up a tributary named Rugged Burn.</p><br>
<p>Mount Mullen is a double-peaked mountain 2.5 mi east-southeast of Mount Milton in the south Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. Located at the west extremity of Petvar Heights, the mountain rises to an elevation of 2,400 m and together with Kasilag Pass forms the divide between Kornicker Glacier and Wessbecher Glacier.</p><br>
<p>The feature was named by US-ACAN in 2006, after Roy R. Mullen, a former employee of the USGS (1960–95, associate chief of the National Mapping Division with responsibility for Antarctic activities 1980–95, USGS representative to SCAR).</p><br>

<p>The Root Covered Bridge is a historic wooden covered bridge in the southeastern part of the USA state of Ohio. it spans the West Branch of the Little Hocking River.</p><br>
<p>Constructed with weatherboarded walls on stone abutments and equipped with a metal roof and elements of iron and steel, the Root Bridge was named for the nearby community of Root Town, which has since become a ghost town. Its builders were Charles and Alta Meredith, who built many other Washington County bridges; two other bridges in the county, known as the Hune and the Harra Covered Bridges, also employ the Long truss. It is believed that the Meredith family heavily favored the style, because they were responsible for building both of those bridges. Throughout Ohio, only eight Long truss bridges are in existence today; the majority of Ohios Long truss bridges are located in southern Ohio. Besides the importance of the Meredith family, this concentration is also likely due to the presence of one of the designers agents in the region, who also functioned as a general contractor for bridge construction in southern Ohio.</p><br>
<p>In early 1975, the Root Covered Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, qualifying because of its importance as a well-preserved example of historic engineering methods. It was the first Washington County covered bridge to be listed on the Register, although five others — including the Harra and Hune bridges — have since received the same designation.</p><br>
<p>Sierra de Albarracín is a 28 km long mountain range in the southwestern end of the Iberian System. Its highest point is the 1,856 m high summit known as Sierra Alta.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>This mountain range is named after the town of Albarracín, located at a height of 1,200 m. At the same time it gives its name to the Sierra de Albarracín comarca of Aragon, Spain. Monterde de Albarracín is located at the northern end of the range.</p><br>
<p>The Sierra de Albarracín is a rough-looking mountain chain with pine, oak and juniper forests and also many patches where the rock is exposed. Its summits are usually covered in snow in the winter and the average temperature is of 11°C. It was formerly one of the most lonely and desolate areas of Spain and there were not even marked paths crossing its impenetrable forests and jagged ridges.</p><br>
<p>Metopoceras albarracina is an endemic moth of these mountains.</p><br>
<p>Wilsons Arch is the modern name for the ancient stone arch whose top is still visible today, where it is supported against the Northeast corner of Jerusalems Western Wall, so that it appears on the left to visitors facing the Wall. It once spanned 42 ft, supporting a road that continued for 75 ft and allowed access to a gate that was level with the surface of the Temple Mount during the time of Jesus.</p><br>
<h2>Name</h2><br>
<p>The arch was identified in 1864 by 19th-century explorer and surveyor Charles William Wilson, for whom it is now named.</p><br>
<p>While the arch is named for Wilson, there is a claim that Swiss physician Titus Tobler had earlier discovered and identified the structure as part of the bridge between the Temple Mount and the Upper City in his 1845/46 writings. According to some, Tobler passed on information about the arch to Wilson, whose name was linked to the arch because he was the one who publicized the find.</p><br>
<h2>Construction and purpose</h2><br>
<p>The Arch was "rediscovered" in 1963 by Duke University archeologist Dr. D. F. Stinespring, Professor of Old Testament and Semitics at the Duke Divinity School, who continued his exploration of the "hidden tunnels" associated with the ancient Temple during the university&#39;s summer breaks.</p><br>
<p>The date of its original construction is disputed, as some scholars date it to before the destruction of Herods temple in AD 70, while others place it much later, to the Arab Umayyad Period, 651–750. Stinesbring believed that the Arch had not been rebuilt, believing that the way it was bonded to the wall around the Temple indicated it was part of the plan during Herods time: "a definitive part of the ancient Temple structure."</p><br>
<p>Some scholars who now date the archs construction to the period under Arab rule during the seventh and eighth centuries AD base their conclusions on what they see as evidence from the period of excavation after the Six Day War, when Israels Ministry of Religious Affairs began to excavate the area of the Western Wall still unexposed, and dig a tunnel beneath the existing structures above. During much of the time of these excavations, which went on 1968–82 and was restarted in 1985, the Israel Antiquities Authoritys (IAA) District Archeologist for Jerusalem was Dan Bahat, who became the archaeologist of the site after resigning from IAA. In his book, he writes that the evidence found was enough to convince him that despite earlier beliefs that the arch was built during Herod&#39;s time, the later dating is correct.</p><br>
<p>Based on the evidence of the excavations, the arch once spanned 42 ft, and although it once was 75 ft high, carrying a road over the valley and the pavement constructed during the time of Herod&#39;s rule, only a 20 ft portion is visible today. While the exact dimensions of the bridge over the arch that was heavily used during the Second Temple Period are impossible to determine, it is believed that it was destroyed by Jewish rebels during the revolt against the Romans, to help prevent their taking of the Temple Mount. After the Muslim conquest of Jerusalem, the walls surrounding the mountain were renovated and the arches of the "Great Bridge" were rebuilt.</p><br>
<p>According to the writings of Josephus, the arch was a part of a bridge that connected the Temple Mount to the Upper City on the Western Hill, and carried water by aqueduct from Solomon&#39;s Pools to the Temple Mount.</p><br>
<p>Along with Robinsons Arch (the arch on the opposite side of that portion of the Western Wall used for Jewish prayers today, named for Edward Robinson, the explorer who identified it in the 19th century), it was one of the largest free-standing masonry arches in the world during the time it was constructed and utilized. The "majestic size and the enormous stones testify to Herods magnificent aspirations."</p><br>
<p>The arch is located below the Chain Road leading to todays Chain Gate, and a square shaft cut down under the arch allows sighting of the walls original massive foundations, "with fourteen courses of dressed stone below the present ground level." Former Chief Rabbi Shlomo Goren used to use that porch to recite special "Kinot" prayers on the night of Tisha B&#39;Av.</p><br>
<h3>The Western Stone</h3><br>
<p>The Western Stone, located in the north section of the Arch, is a monolithic stone block forming part of the lower level of the Western Wall. Weighing 570 tonnes (628 tons), it is one of the largest building blocks in the world. The stone is 13.6 meters (44.6 ft) long, 4.5 meters (15 ft) wide and has an estimated height of 3.5 meters (11.5 ft). It is considered to be one of the heaviest objects ever lifted by human beings without powered machines. It is the largest building stone found in Israel and second in the world. It is only partially intact, the rest was destroyed in 70 CE during the Roman siege of Jerusalem.</p><br>
<h2>Excavation and restoration</h2><br>
<p>In 1968, only a few months after the Six Day War, Israel began excavations to uncover the portion of the Western Wall that was not exposed. As the excavations continued, the opening to the arch was uncovered, and rubble began to be removed. It would take 17 years, until 1985, until the entire length of the wall would be cleared.</p><br>
<p>In 2005, the Western Wall Heritage Foundation initiated a major renovation effort under Rabbi Rabinovich, then-rabbi of the wall ("Rabbi of the Kotel," as the title is usually referenced, using the Hebrew word for the Wall).</p><br>
<p>Israeli workers renovated and restored the area for three years, strengthening the arch in preparation for access for visitors and use for prayer. Scaffolding remained in place for over a year to allow workers to remove cement that had been applied as patches over the stone.</p><br>
<p>The restoration included additions to the men&#39;s section included a Torah ark that can house over one hundred Torah scrolls, in addition to new bookshelves, a library, and heating for the winter and air conditioning for the summer. There is also a new room built for the scribes who maintain and preserve the Torah scrolls used at the Wall.</p><br>
<p>Speakers at the March 12, 2006 dedication ceremony included: President of Israel, Mr. Moshe Katzav, Ashkenazi and Sephardi chief rabbis, Rabbi Yona Metzger and Rabbi Shlomo Amar, the mayor of Jerusalem, Rabbi Uri Lupolianski, the chief rabbi of the Kotel, Rabbi Rabinovich, and the director of The Western Wall Heritage Foundation, Rabbi Mordechai (Suli) Eliav.</p><br>
<p>New construction also included a womens section and gallery, which was dedicated on May 25, 2006, a little more than two months after the March dedication ceremony. This addition creates a womans section to allow separate seating during worship services and special events conducted within the Wilsons Arch prayer area, including Bar Mitzvah ceremonies, and advertisements for special programs such as the middle-of-the-night prayers climaxing the six-week "Shoavim" period have made a point of reminding women that this new area exists. According to the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, this new construction allows women for the first time to "take part in the services held inside under the Arch." On May 14, 2008, United States First Lady Laura Bush visited the new womens section during her visit to Israel.</p><br>
<p>On July 25, 2010, a Ner Tamid, an oil-burning "eternal light," was installed within the prayer hall within Wilson&#39;s Arch, the first eternal light installed in the area of the Western Wall. According to the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, requests have been made for many years that "an olive oil lamp be placed in the prayer hall of the Western Wall Plaza, as is the custom in Jewish synagogues, to represent the menorah of the Temple in Jerusalem as well as the continuously burning fire on the altar of burnt offerings in front of the Temple, especially in the closest place to where they used to stand."</p><br>
<h2>Special events</h2><br>
<p>In 1983, a highly unusual interfaith service was conducted in the area under Wilson&#39;s Arch—the first interfaith service ever to be conducted at the Western Wall since it came under Israeli control. Attended by both men and women who were allowed to sit together, it was conducted under the supervision of the Israel Ministry of Religious Affairs, and led by USA Navy Chaplain (Rabbi) Arnold Resnicoff. Ministry of Affairs representative Yonatan Yuval was present, responding to press queries that this service was authorized as part of a special welcome for the USA Sixth Fleet.</p><br>
<p>Since the restoration, a growing number of worship events have been scheduled in the area, to take advantage of the cover and temperature control, especially for services at night that are traditionally recited at the Wall. For example, "Tikkun Chatzot," a kabbalistic midnight prayer for redemption has been conducted there, with a number of public figures in attendance.</p><br>
<p>The area has also been utilized during times when security concerns make it difficult to allow the use of the outdoor prayer plaza, such as the March 19, 2009 visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the Wall and Temple Mount. Despite the fact that the Popes visit coincided with the Jewish festival of Lag BOmer, the decision had been made to close the Wall and not allow services, but at the request of the Walls rabbi, Shmuel Rabinowitz, the government allowed worship to be conducted in the area within the Arch. Rabbi Rabinowitz, protesting the decision, was quoted as saying that "Its inconceivable that the popes visit would hurt worshippers at the Western Wall, some of whom have been praying there daily." Worshippers were allowed into the main plaza during the hours prior to the Popes scheduled arrival, but moved into the enclosed Wilson&#39;s Arch prayer before his actual arrival.</p><br>
<p>Video and audio streaming of some special events are available online from the "Wilson&#39;s Arch camera" (webcam). It does not operate on Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath, or on those Jewish holy days when photography is prohibited by Jewish religious law.</p><br>
<p>The Cobble Hill Historic District is a municipal and national historic district located in the Cobble Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. The national district consists of 796 contributing, largely residential buildings built between the 1830s and 1920s. It includes fine examples of Greek Revival, Italianate, and Queen Anne style row houses. Also in the district are a number of notable churches, including ones by Richard Upjohn  and Minard Lafever , 1851–52). A number of early 20th century apartment buildings are part of the district as well.</p><br>
<p>The Cobble Hill Historic District was first designated a New York City landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1969. It was then listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The city extended the district in 1988.</p><br>
<p>University Park–Emory Highlands–Emory Estates is a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the Druid Hills CDP adjacent to Emory University near Atlanta, Georgia.</p><br>
<p>The University Park tract broke ground in 1916 and consists of 65 houses along Emory and Ridgewood Drives.</p><br>
<p>Emory Highlands was laid out in 1923 and consists of 58 lots along Burlington Road and Ridgewood Drive between University and</p><br>
<p>North Decatur Road.</p><br>
<p>Emory Estates was laid out in 1925 and consists of 73 lots on Emory Circle and Durand Drive. Houses here date from 1925 through 1943.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>Small, Craftsman-style bungalows and English Vernacular-style cottages are most common. There are also some larger, two-story Colonial Revival-style houses.</p><br>
<p>Fort Greene Historic District is a national historic district in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, New York, New York. It consists of 1,158 contributing buildings, two contributing sites, one contributing object, and two contributing structures. It is characterized by a concentration of architecturally distinguished three and four story townhouses developed speculatively and built between 1840 and 1890. Most are faced in sandstone and exhibit characteristics of the Greek Revival, Italianate, Second Empire, and Neo-Grec styles. It includes a 33-acre park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in 1868. In the park is a column memorializing Revolutionary War soldiers  that was designed by McKim, Mead, and White and erected in 1908. The park was built on the site of fortifications built in 1776 and 1814. Also located in the district is the Brooklyn Academy of Music.</p><br>
<p>It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 and expanded in 1984.</p><br>
